Glue Ear

Recurrent Ear Infections

Many children suffer recurrent infections of the middle ear, a condition also known as otitis media (OM).

What are the symptoms of recurrent ear infections?
Ear infections can cause irritability, difficulty sleeping, runny nose, fever, fluid draining from the ear, loss of balance, mild to severe ear pain, and hearing difficulty. Untreated infections can cause permanent hearing impairment and can also spread to other parts of the head, including the brain. Frequent or persistent ear infections in children can reduce their hearing when normal hearing is critical for speech and language development.

Gout

Gout Arthritis

Gout is a form of arthritis that occurs when crystals of uric acid accumulate in a joint, leading to the sudden development of pain and inflammation. People with gout either overproduce uric acid or are less efficient than other people, at eliminating it. The joint of the big toe is the most common site to accumulate uric acid crystals, although other joints may be affected.

What are the symptoms of gout?
The pain of gout can arise suddenly and is often very intense. The affected joint is usually red, swollen, and very tender to the touch. A low-grade fever may also be present.

Granulomatous Ileitis

Crohn's Disease

Crohn’s disease is a poorly understood inflammatory condition that usually affects the final part of the small intestine and the beginning section of the colon. It often causes bloody stools and malabsorption problems.

What are the symptoms of Crohn’s disease?
Chronic diarrhea with abdominal pain, fever, loss of appetite, weight loss, and a sense of fullness in the abdomen are the most common symptoms. About one-third of people with Crohn’s have a history of anal fissures (linear ulcers on the margin of the anus) or fistulas (abnormal tube-like passages from the rectum to the surface of the anus).

Gum Disease

Gingivitis (Periodontal Disease)

Gingivitis is an inflammation of the gums (gingivae), caused by bacteria. Periodontitis is a deeper and more serious inflammation of both the gingivae and tissue that surrounds and supports the teeth. These common conditions are often progressive and can eventually result in loss of the underlying bone that supports the teeth. After age 30, periodontal disease is responsible for more tooth loss than are dental cavities. Severe periodontitis sometimes requires surgery to repair damaged gum tissue.
